After months of work Valve has formally announced that Steam and the Source engine have been successfully ported to Ubuntu via its Steam’d Penguins blog post.
The first game that will be available to Ubuntu gamers through Steam will be Left 4 Dead 2 (with other titles to follow) with Valve’s current aim being to get “the Steam client onto Linux with full functionality” and also “optimizing a version of L4D2 running at a high frame rate with OpenGL.”
We’ll keep an eye on the progress of Steam for Linux and report back when Valve post their next blog, hopefully with a few more titles coming Ubuntu’s way.
