Sporadic shooting droughts once again came back to haunt the Crimson Tide as the sixth-seeded Spiders upset third-seeded Alabama, 71-64, in the first round on Tuesday evening from Coleman Coliseum. "Give Richmond credit, they came in ready to play, they really wanted to win the game". We think we had a nice end of the year.

A time and date for the second round matchup with Oakland will be determined and announced on and Richmond men's basketball social media outlets. "That puts a lot of pressure on defenses, and because of that, we were consistently able to score".

Playing his final game in an Alabama uniform, Corbin Collins led the Tide with 19 points on 5 of 12 shooting. The Spiders shot 53 percent from the field and forced Alabama into eight first-half turnovers.

The Spiders (21-12) advance to face Oakland (25-8) in the second round.

Richmond and Alabama have met on three previous occasions in series history, with the last meeting coming almost 30 years ago.

"It was very frustrating because we just couldn't seem to get over the hump", Tide guard Dazon Ingram said.

Alabama jumped out to a quick lead, but Buckingham wouldn't let it last long, scoring seven straight points for the Spiders to grab a 13-9 lead for the Spiders with 13:07 to play in the first. The Golden Grizzlies, who erased a 20-point deficit in the second half to defeat Clemson, will travel to Richmond for the second round.
