However, the studio is not so keen on having him on board because of his issues, which included budget control.

Whether the Wachowskis, the sibling directors, and writers behind the original trilogy, will be involved isn't known at this stage. According to THR, the franchise's creators, the Wachowskis, are not now involved with the project. That said, the Reporter notes, "Warners would want the two filmmakers to give at minimum a blessing to the nascent project".

Representatives for Warner Bros., the Wachowskis, and Silver all declined to comment.

The film franchise began in 1999 with The Matrix, which raked in US$461 million worldwide and won four Oscars: Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects.

The three films follow Neo's journey to liberate humanity from the clutches of the machines.

There were two sequels for The Matrix; The Matrix Reloaded in 2003 and The Matrix Revolutions released six months after the first sequel.

Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving played alongside Keanu Reeves in the sci-fi blockbuster trilogy, as the latter's character Neo realized he was humanity's last hope of a true and meaningful existence.

This is not the first time that word has gone out about a new Matrix movie.

While promoting his film, John Wick: Chapter 2, Keanu told Yahoo Movies,"They would have to write it and direct it". But if you loved the original movie and wouldn't mind seeing it given a modern touch, then do check back with us later for more updates. "I'd certainly like to see what would happen and more exploration of that world".

How would you feel about a reboot?

There is no set date for production and, like the planned Matrix television show previous year could still be canceled.

It is unclear as to when production might begin, or if this report is even accurate at all.
