A woman out celebrating her 21st birthday died when the auto she was in, driven by a man who was drunk, crashed and split in two on the Williamsburg Bridge on Thursday morning, police said.

A woman was killed after being thrown from a vehicle that struck the median on the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn Thursday. He and the driver were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries, they said.

The crash occurred on the Williamsburg Bridge before 3:30 a.m.

The woman, who was in the backseat of the auto, was thrown from the vehicle. She was killed in the crash, according to police.

She had been out celebrating her birthday, which was on Wednesday. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired and was charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

People in the passing vehicles took videos of the remains of the crashed auto, which showed debris all over the roadway.

The Brooklyn-bound inner roadway remains closed as police investigate. The police said that a vehicle hit a guardrail along the right side of the roadway and flipped over on the westbound lanes of Brentwood. Another incident took place in February that left five people injured after a vehicle wreck on the Long Island Expressway.
