Duterte plans to discuss the matter during his visit to Moscow, which is to take place within the first half of 2017.

President Duterte held private meetings with the members of the associationof Myanmar-based Philippine businessmen and the Philippine community at Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.

"As developing countries with similar historic experiences and facing the same challenges, we can use the synergies of interests as basis for strengthened cooperation", said Duterte during his departure Sunday from the Davao International Airport at around 2:40 p.m.

Duterte's latest remarks also present a setback for local legislators pushing for marriage equality.

A bloody drugs war has embroiled on the streets since, killing more than 7,000 people, with numerous dead suspected dealers and alleged drug addicts. The Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have also warned Duterte may be overseeing crimes against humanity, with police allegedly running anonymous death squads.

Reacting to criticism that the operation targeted the poor, Duterte said he must "destroy" small-time street peddlers as well as the big-time drug lords. He insisted that he has not asked his security forces to break the law.

Noting that he has "nothing against Americans", Duterte said, "under the Trump administration, I will give all, whatever it is, short of military alliances". I will continue until the last drug lord in the Philippines is killed and the pushers (are) out of the streets, ' he said.

Duterte was also criticised for targeting the poor in his drug war.

"Do not impose your culture, or your belief in what would be a government in this planet. Let us uphold the sanctity of life and make a stand against death penalty", the Catholic Bishops of the Philippines said in the special pastoral statement.

In a speech transcript released today, the leader also refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of trans people, saying: "Wherever God has placed you, stay there". And there is the Civil Code, which is you can only marry a woman for me, and for woman to marry a man.
