Sean Spicer: I'd be happy to rewrite NYT headlines

I don't think Gorsuch should be considered for the Supreme Court until the cloud of illegitimacy hanging over the Trump presidency is removed.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer diminished the role of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, remarks made at the same time as a House Intelligence Committee hearing investigated whether campaign aides colluded with Russian Federation during last year's presidential race.

The White House did not disclose whether Trump played golf over the weekend, but a photo posted on Twitter by Newsmax chief executive Christopher Ruddy, a friend of the president, showed Trump wearing a golfing glove and posing with two others at the club.

Trump's preferred course by far is the one closest to his Florida home: Trump International Golf Club.

"Those people, the greatest amount of interaction they had with the campaign was the campaign apparently sending them a series of cease-and-desist letters", Spicer said.

The frequency with which Trump plays golf isn't really an issue - just as it wasn't for former President Barack Obama.

"I'm going to be working for you; I'm not going to have time to go play golf", Trump said during a 2016 event in Virginia.

In doing so, Spicer suggested the man who managed Donald Trump's presidential campaign "had a very limited role" - despite at least two months in charge.

Except that Obama also played a round with an Asian leader - in 2014, when he hit the links with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak during Obama's winter vacation in Hawaii.

Trump made critiquing Obama for golfing a part of his 2016 message. Also, some Cabinet secretaries have been more welcoming of their White House liaisons.

Trump's aides have not done so. "He played more golf past year than Tiger Woods".

Spicer then cited something Trump suggested earlier in the day on Twitter - claiming, without presenting evidence, that the DNC did not let the Federal Bureau of Investigation look at its server and that Hillary Clinton's campaign colluded with a Russian official. "People jump to the conclusion he's going to play golf".

Jim Fazio-designed, 18-hole site of "meetings and phone calls" today, according to the White House. The figure is not certain because the White House rarely confirms when Trump is golfing. "Paul was brought on sometime in June and by the middle of August he was no longer with the campaign, meaning for the final stretch of the general election, he was not involved", Spicer said, misstating when Manafort was hired.
