Arguments for the bill will be heard Wednesday by the Senate Health Committee.

Wisconsin's Medicaid program has already eliminated abortion coverage.

How those are defined is left up to the health plan, but they generally are only those considered to be medically necessary.

The bill would ban health insurance plans from covering elective abortions for state employees, according to its authors, Sen.

The state doesn't know how many abortions are covered now because that information is not collected, she said.

They say new legislation would ensure taxpayers are only paying for abortions in very limited circumstances.

Three anti-abortion groups are supporting the Republican-backed bill.

"That is exactly why women and their doctors should be able to make these decisions without political interference". Connie Leyva, would require the University of California, the University of Southern California, and the Golden State's community colleges to provide abortifacients and abortion counseling at their health centers, rather than referring students to off-campus facilities, which has been standard practice, The Mercury News reported Wednesday.

Advocates for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault have registered in opposition to the bill because it would require a woman to report cases of rape or incest to law enforcement in order to have abortion services covered under a state health plan.
