"13 Reasons Why" might be speaking to an audience that needs a voice, but it's also important to note that this is fiction.

One woman said on social media that it presented a dramatised view that did not reflect the reality of how it felt to be affected by suicide, and expressed concern that it would not help those in distress.

"13 Reasons Why" is based on the 2007 book of the same name and tells the story of the events surrounding 17-year-old Hannah Baker's choice to take her own life.

Child psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg agrees, describing the show's final episode, which graphically depicts Hannah taking her own life, as "one of the worst suicide scenes that I've ever seen". "It's far more likely for young people to connect with this content and think it's the answer for them", The Hollywood Reporter quoted her as saying. She often travels across the nation on behalf of her non-profit, Bullied but Not Broken. Those reasons include: "the suicide scene is graphic and that's not OK, it sends the wrong messages about suicide risk and the show does nothing to encourage help-seeking and shows adults as a species to be avoided at all costs". I've been living with mental health problems most of my life, and I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was about Hannah Baker's age.

Dylan added to Entertainment Weekly: "Whatever they write, I'm in". The story follows the aftermath of a suicide, and if you haven't watched the show I suggest you stop reading now since there are major spoilers in the rest of the article.

"I don't know if I should be flattered or scared about this being written on my auto?" he wrote in his post. I feel like a f***ing idiot because someone just explained to me that Alex doesn't shoot himself, Tyler shoots him!

Since the show premiered, Gomez and two cast members, Alisha Boe and Tommy Dorfman, got matching black semi colon tattoos - a symbol for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

"13 Reasons Why" has many strengths. In my opinion, it was a cold, commercial decision made with no regard for the lives of the very people who watch their show, and I find that unforgivable.

However, the suicide scene was too much for me.
