Alison Sweeney returning to 'Days of Our Lives'

She also asked her fans to help catch her up on the action in Salem since she's been away for a while and would love to know what's happened during her time away.

Die-hard fans of the soap suspected that she would return since her character was not killed off in her final appearance.

After 22 years of playing the character Samantha "Sami" Brady on the hit daytime soap Days Of Our Lives, the actress has made a decision to come out of retirement to return and play her villainous role.

"I'm really, really excited to be back in Salem", she added.

"From my end, it takes a little bit of logistics with projects I'm working on", she told Soap Opera Digest, which was first to report the news.

According to Soaps Digest, Sweeney will join the series for a two-month production in May and June.

"I have big news to share - I'm coming back to Days!".

The 40-year-old actress announced in an Instagram video Monday that she will reprise Samantha "Sami" Brady on the long-running NBC soap opera. Fortunately for "DOOL", she actually gave some time for some shoots.

Sweeney, who departed "Days of Our Lives" in 2014 after more than 20 years on the daytime drama, is returning to the series, albeit temporarily.

Sweeney has more recently appeared in Hallmark's Murder, She Baked TV movies and served an 8-year stint as the host of NBC's The Biggest Loser.

Alison Sweeney will return to "Days of Our Lives" this fall.
