A gunman who went by the nickname Black Jesus killed three white men in downtown Fresno, California, on Tuesday, and fired at another before he was taken into custody while shouting "Allahu Akhbar", police said.

Randalls had been working at the Fashion Fair mall before he chose to take a job at Pacific Gas & Electric Co., Randalls thought it would be a good move for his family's future, his friends said.

A man picking up food for his family and a newly hired utility worker doing on-the-job training were among those gunned down randomly Tuesday by a hate-spewing lunatic in California, authorities said.

When Zackary Randalls knew he wanted to propose his future wife, Katie, his friend tattooed "Will you marry me?" with check boxes for "Yes" or "No" on his knees.

Police had been looking for Muhammad in the death of the guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams.

He says Martin Luther King "wanted to hug their hands, and get along with them, and lick their feet and they still killed him". That he was going to kill as many white males as possible.

During Wednesday's press conference, Dyer said that Muhammad planned to kill as many white men as possible and blamed that demographic for problems in the black community.

Authorities say he chose to kill more white people when he learned he was wanted in Williams' death.

Two Latina women and a child also crossed paths with Muhammad, who pointed the gun at them as they sat in their vehicle trying to flee, but he did not shoot.

They scattered, and Muhammad picked the one who appeared heavier, David Jackson.

It was not immediately clear why security got involved, but the woman started arguing with Carl Williams, a 25-year-old unarmed security guard, police said. "You can't have terror and you can't have race at the same time", he said.

Muhammad ran from the parking lot, wrapped his gun in clothing and set it on the ground.

Muhammad, 39, was arrested shortly after the rampage.

His criminal record also includes making criminal threats, forgery, false imprisonment and driving under the influence, online records state. As for a motive, police said it had something to do with his longstanding hatred. "Sorry, chief", Dyer reported Muhammad as saying.

On Tuesday morning, he visited a Starbucks and logged onto the Web, where he learned police were seeking him for last week's shooting, Dyer said.

"First, he said he respected Fresno police officers (and) did not want to force them to shoot him", Dyer said. He fired one round into a auto that drove by, but then realized the people in the vehicle were Latina and stopped shooting.

Muhammad led investigators through the crime scene at the motel as well as the locations from Tuesday's shootings, Dyer said.

Muhammad's father, Vincent Taylor, told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday that his son believed that he was part of an ongoing war between whites and blacks, and that "a battle was about to take place".

Muhammad then went to a nearby school, "where he hid out by a trash dumpster", Dyer said. Dyer described Muhammad as a "racist" rather than a terrorist.

Prosecutors say the suspect in a racially motivated shooting rampage in Fresno could be arraigned on murder charges by the end of the week.
