Trump used the occasion of his first visit as president to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to present the Purple Heart to Sgt. 1st Class Alvaro Barrientos. First lady Melania Trump accompanied him.

The ceremony took place in front of a wall with a display of pictures of president's visiting the hospital.

Trump kissed Barrientos' wife before pinning the medal on the sergeant's left shirt collar, grasping Barrientos by the shoulders and then shaking his hand. "When I heard about this I wanted to do it myself".

Our Commander in Chief visited Walter Reed Medical Center for a visit to "our bravest and greatest Americans".

He's also expected to award at least one Purple Heart, the USA military's decoration given to those wounded or killed in action.

Many marchers in the United States protested the deep skepticism Trump and his cabinet officials have expressed about climate change and the value of science, as well as the deep funding cuts Trump has proposed for scientific research. "This was much easier", Trump said at the time.

Trump hits 100 days on April 29 - next Saturday.

The 7:30 p.m. rally next Saturday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in New Holland Arena is being run by the Trump campaign.

April 29 is also the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington.

Many on social media noted that the President's congratulations seemed inappropriate.

The President also plans to hold a press conference next Thursday on veterans' issues specifically.
