Guardiola arrived in Manchester having won numerous trophies with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but has received criticism in his first season in England centred on City's inconsistent defending and his decision to replace goalkeeper Joe Hart with the technically gifted but error-prone Claudio Bravo. The 31-year-old signed from Hamburg in 2008 still has two years left on his contract and, if he can remain fit, has set his sights on leading City to a Champions League triumph before his time is up.

Fourth-placed City's last four matches all look winnable on paper - starting at home against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Frenchman is in real danger of seeing Arsenal finish outside of the top four for the first time since his appointment in late 1996, but has distanced himself from feeling any pain from the protests.

'I'm very happy with the return, but sad with the draw. I know my situation and I know why I came back.

"I don't take it too personally". I've never doubted myself.

Arsenal have not won the league since 2004 but have lifted the FA Cup in two of the last three campaigns, and Wenger pointed to the lack of domestic dominance of other big clubs to show how hard continued success can be.

Wenger called for a sense of perspective over Arsenal's struggles, adding: "People want to win".

Since winning their first six Premier League matches, that hope has petered out with only three victories in their last eight games while Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have moved clear in the top two places. It looks like everything is already here but we are still a club under construction.

"We are in the FA Cup final again". That's something we shouldn't allow but I really believe that's not the case. Liverpool hasn't won it for over 20. The clubs' goal difference is similar (Liverpool +29, City +28) at the moment, although if the teams finish on the same number of points and with the same goal difference, the fact Liverpool have scored more goals at present would see them finish ahead of City in the table.

Wenger comes up against long-term adversary Jose Mourinho on Sunday as Manchester United visit north London.
