'Unique' Ronaldo leaves Atletico needing a miracle

Ronaldo completed his hat-trick for the second successive Champions League fixture when he swept in Lucas Vazquez's cut-back on 86 minutes.

REAL Madrid are the only team who have stopped Atletico Madrid adding a Champions League triumph to their achievements under Diego Simeone and for the fourth year running the Rojiblancos' illustrious neighbours block their path to European glory.

Real Madrid dominated proceedings in the opening minutes and got the lead through a trademark Cristiano Ronaldo's thumping header in the 10th minute.

"I listened to my dad talk for 20 years about George Best and Pele, and Cristiano Ronaldo is easily the equal of those".

"We'll all remember that he's a unique player and a legend of our club", said Ramos.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more Champions League goals (103) than 113 of the 135 teams who have ever participated in the competition.

Then when the game became more open at the end of the second half, Ronaldo scored two more goals as he has all but put Zinedine Zidane's men into the final.

"There is still the return leg to play and until the referee blows the final whistle anything can happen", said the Real Madrid boss, who nevertheless knows that an away goal would leave Atletico needing 5 goals to qualify.

As good as Atletico, Monaco, and Juventus are, they don't have Ronaldo, and that makes a world of difference.

"We're content, very happy and we can enjoy it, but we still have a long way to go in the Champions League and La Liga". And nearly a year on, the strategy is more effective than ever. "The soaring Portuguese has eight goals in his last three Champions League games. It works because we have great players with great attitudes". "We have to thank the fans because whenever we have a crucial game, they're there driving us on".

All the 3 strikes were triggered off by Cristiano-legend-Ronaldo himself on Tuesday, just like when these sides met last November in the League.

"It's great to have a player like him", said Real midfielder Toni Kroos.

"They will try to hurt us in the first minutes with the intensity of their players".

23 - All time European Championship goals for Portugal, including those scored in qualifying.

Reports coming from Spain suggest that Real Madrid are working on a deal to bring the Colombian defender to the Spanish capital and the fact that Barcelona are also keen to sign him to reinforce their defensive line, Los Blancos will be even more determined to sign him up as soon as possible.
