"He gave me straight-up answers".

But, asked last month whether it was too late to fire the director, the president replied, "No, it's not too late, but, you know, I have confidence in him". "This has been one of the worlds most painful experiences". It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some impact on the election.

"Certainly in my view, [Russia is] the greatest threat of any nation on Earth, given their intention and their capability", Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday, according to a transcript published by The Washington Post.

At a separate hearing in March, Comey publicly confirmed the FBI had launched that investigation in the summer of 2016.

Earlier in the day, Clinton discussed her 2016 election loss with CNN's Christiane Amanpour at a Women for Women International event in NY.

Director Comey said he was interviewed by the Justice Department's IG (inspector general) as part of an internal probe of how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the politically explosive Clinton case.

During the hearing, the FBI chief was repeatedly grilled by lawmakers asking him why he revealed the Clinton investigation, but stayed quiet about the Trump-Russia probe during the campaign.

Wednesday's testimony by Comey came during what was meant to be a routine oversight hearing of the FBI, but was instead dominated by questions relating to investigations surrounding the 2016 campaign.

To create a group Clinton intends next week, says Politico, citing its own sources.

Comey is appearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee for a routine oversight hearing.

Axelrod, who served as an adviser to former President Obama, argued that while she "has a legitimate beef" when it comes to Comey's letter being sent just days before the election, Clinton is still responsible for her failed campaign.

Mrs. Clinton said Tuesday that her election bid was derailed in part by Directors Comey's announcement about the renewed probe of her use of a private e-Mail server while she was Secretary of State.

The director also wouldn't go into detail in open session about the Steele dossier that contains rough intelligence related to the Trump campaign and Russian Federation compiled by a former MI6 operative, saying in response to a series of queries from Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), "That's not a question that I can answer in this forum". And he said the FBI does not expect to have anything to say about the Russian Federation investigation until that one was over either.

"We treated it like we did the Clinton investigation", Comey maintained.

Kennedy said he appreciated Comey's "candor" during his Wednesday testimony.

You see, a range of external forces were responsible for her defeat. And he warned of the impact of Wikileaks and said Russian Federation is still attempting to influence US elections.
