If the current political climate isn't giving you nightmares, here's something else to keep you up at night.

Looks like all that infamous American Horror Story secrecy has gone out of the window in regards to season seven because Ryan Murphy has just shared a teaser of what's to come in the next instalment of the series and it looks absolutely f*cking terrifying.

How does this connect to the election? And I wanted to clarify that that is not true.

American Horror Story airs this autumn on FX. It's our jumping off point. He announced back in February that Season 7's theme would be the "2016 Election," and, since then, has been slowly leaking one detail after another. It is about the election we just went through and what happened on that night and the fallout of that night, which to many people, from all sides of the camps is a horror story.

As for what the new season of the show will be about beyond this, we know that there is certainly a little bit of a further mystery present there. "You will not see [Donald] Trump and [Hillary] Clinton as characters on the show". Unofficial but official marketing for season 7 has begun. It's unclear how the "Freak Show" characters from the '50s will tie in to the modern day setting. The series will pick up on Election Night and deal primarily with the aftermath, and both Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are confirmed to be returning. Billy Eichner and "Scream Queens" star Billie Lourd are added to the cast ensemble.
