The chief usher works as the general manager of the building, overseeing the huge staff of butlers, maids, chefs, and others who keep the iconic building running.

After a career that spanned more than 40 years, Allman's departure will leave another key position open on the residence staff on the heels of Chief Usher Angella Reid's departure Friday.

Former chief usher at the White House, Angella Reid.

"We left on very good terms and wish her the best and certainly hope for great things for her in the future", she said during Friday's briefing. There have only been 10 chief ushers since the position was officially created at the turn of the 20th century. She took the bold step, "I googled the White House, spoke to a young lady, and she took a message".

Some of Rochon and Reid's predecessors held the position for up to two decades.

The chief usher works with the First Lady and her social secretary as they plan events, host visitors, and make sure the family's private sanctuary on the second and third floor meets their needs.

The curator's job is to work closely with the White House interior decorator and the Committee for the Preservation of the White House.

Reid was said to be close to the Obamas, who hired her for the job, but three people with knowledge of the situation said there were tensions with the household staff she managed.

"There would be too many questions asked", said Wilson Jerman, who worked at the White House as a housekeeper, butler, and part-time doorman during different periods from 1957 to 2010. Reid, who is Jamaican-American, was also the first black woman to ever occupy this role; she had been charged with managing the White House staff, the White House grounds, and all activities therein. She knows about hospitality. No one interviewed for the Post story could recall an abrupt firing from the White House permanent staff since 1993. He says that he was recently offered the post again by the Trump administration.

Cruelty? In Donald Trump's White House? It revealed that she was born in Trinityville, St Thomas, and attended the Excelsior High School in Kingston before she became a front-office trainee at the Half Moon hotel in Montego Bay in 1978. "And fortunately for me, she took me seriously and passed this message on and someone called me back".

"Summer of 2011, I went to a party, it was a pool party", she told NBC. "It's a place where people actually live", CNN reported.
