'Young Sheldon' Trailer: Here's a Look at That 'Big Bang Theory' Prequel

CBS gave us our first look at Young Sheldon at CBS's upfront presentation Wednesday, the Big Bang Theory prequel centering around one of the sitcom's most distinctive characters.

Iain Armitage stars as the titular boy genius (grown-up Sheldon Jim Parsons will be providing voiceover narration), who is a misfit growing up in the bible-thumping backwater (fictional) East Texas town of Medford. Intellectually, he's perhaps overqualified for 9th grade, but socially he's completely incompetent.

The long-awaited "Big Bang Theory" spinoff will feature Sheldon Cooper as you've never seen him before - as a 9-year-old in a single-camera comedy.

Things aren't easy at home, either.

While I'm not fan of the parent show and have no interest in watching Young Sheldon, yelling and complaining about this series isn't going to do anyone any good. Set in the late '80s, Sheldon's twin sister (Raegan Revord), older brother (Montana Jordan), father (Lance Barber) and mother (Zoe Perry), all struggle to understand the child prodigy. They brought in a ringer to direct the pilot - Iron Man's Jon Favreau, who also gets an executive producer credit. Also the humour is pretty much gag free, and seems to lean more on the sentimental side of things, which is drastically different from Big Bang's (and creator Chuck Lorre's) take on things.

Jim Parsons, who plays the grown up Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory, will narrate the show which he described as "a little bit Wonder Years, a little bit Doogie Howser".

But the story follows what "Big Bang Theory" viewers know to be true: Sheldon Cooper has always been in a class of his own.
