President Donald Trump said Saturday that "we can make a fast decision" on a new Federal Bureau of Investigation director, possibly by late next week, before he leaves on his first foreign trip since taking office. Mark Warner (D-Va.), said Friday that Comey would not appear that day, without providing further information. "Risky because he may be obstructing justice, in terms of the investigation that really goes to the heart of our democracy -the accountability of the President, and the people around him, to the rule of law - protecting our democracy from an invasion - a cyber-invasion by the Russians", he said.

When asked if Trump was recording any conversations in the Oval Office, Spicer again maintained a pre-meditated silence.

Trump tweeted Friday "Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

President Donald Trump has said that it is a "good idea" to abolish daily White House briefing, a viewpoint which has been opposed by the White House Correspondents' Association. The FBI director serves a 10-year term but can be replaced by the president. Luttig clashed with the Bush White House on a prominent terror case, rebuking the administration for its actions in the case involving "enemy combatant" Jose Padilla.

Trump, however, doesn't appear to have any idea how misguided that kind of threat is - even if it is only a sham created to intimidate Comey.

Trump, in an interview Thursday with NBC News, had this version: "I said, 'If it's possible, would you let me know, am I under investigation?' He said you are not under investigation". Trump also said that at the dinner, he and Comey discussed whether the United States top cop would stay in his role and continue his 10-year term.

Furious with the news coverage of the White House's shifting explanations on Comey's sacking, Trump lashed out, suggesting the media was wrong to expect his spokespeople to be 100 percent accurate. Trump suggested, in an exclusive interview Thursday with Holt, that he had the FBI's Russian Federation collusion investigation on his mind when he made a decision to remove Comey. Comey had previously refused to acknowledge the parallel Trump investigation, and his disclosure enrages Democrats who already blamed Comey for costing Clinton the presidency.

Trump addressed questions over the timing in his interview with Pirro, arguing that there was "no right time" to fire Comey.

Late Tuesday, White House officials insisted that Comey was ousted because of his conduct in the probe into Hillary Clinton's handling of classified information previous year.

The 49-year-old McCabe, a career FBI agent, has taken part in a number of high-profile investigations, including probes into the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 and the attacks against USA installations in Benghazi, Libya in 2012.

May 11, 2017: Trump, in an NBC interview, says he had been intending to fire Comey — whom he derided as a "showboat" and "grandstander" — for months.

"I was going to fire Comey", Trump said. -Former Rep. Mike Rogers of MI, who was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. "You know, look, it's politics".
