US Developer With Trump Connection Courting Chinese Investors

Wealthy Chinese citizens have been falling over themselves to participate in the EB-5 program, which makes immigrants eligible to apply for a green card if they invest over $500,000 in a project that creates U.S.jobs.

Meyer never mentioned the president's name during the investor event, but Trump's photo was seen in a slide at the conference that detailed the "key decision makers" on the EB-5 program, CNN reports.

The Kushner family told a group of 100 wealthy Chinese investors Saturday that they could secure immigration visas to the USA with an investment of half a million dollars, several media outlets revealed.

Kushner's sister, Nicole Kushner Meyer, told dozens of potential investors in Beijing that they should invest in a skyscrapers now being built in New Jersey, the Guardian reported.

"Ms. Meyer wanted to make clear that her brother had stepped away from the company in January and has nothing to do with this project", the company said in a statement. "In addition to numerous cases of securities fraud, the program is frequently exploited by real estate developers to finance projects in the wealthiest parts of this country". As the Post noted, she encouraged investors to apply for USA residency through the EB-5 visa program-a controversial initiative that was renewed the day before in federal spending legislation signed into law by President Trump.

The events were hosted in Beijing and Shanghai on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Attendees were reassured by a USA lawyer that despite his tough talk on immigration, Trump himself was a key decision-maker for EB-5 policy and was unlikely to make any changes to it in the near future - making it a safe path to United States residency.

Kushner is a senior advisor and son-in-law of United States President Donald Trump. Though Trump repeatedly bashed American immigration policies during last year's campaign, he did not criticize EB-5 visas.

According to the report, Meyer talked about how family values had shaped Kushner Companies and spoke about her grandparents, who survived the Holocaust. The controversial program has been called "U.S. citizenship for sale", according to the newspaper.

Critics have blasted the Kushner Companies' sales pitches in China, saying they are a new example of how the Trump administration is using its position to boost its business interests.

The event was meant to draw investors for 1 Journal Square, a $976.4 million residential and commercial project underway in New Jersey.

Liu said he had been to previous pitches for EB-5 investments but had concerns about the risks. "Later, as investors started leaving the ballroom, organizers physically surrounded attendees to prevent them from giving interviews".

Blake Roberts, an attorney at the law firm of WilmerHale, which is Kushner's personal counsel, said Kushner has no involvement in the operation of Kushner Companies.

On Monday, Trump administration spokesman Sean Spicer said the president would look at the foreign investor visa program as part of a broader review of immigration policy.

(Answer: They can't.) The only way to stop the conflict might be to stop the EB-5 program altogether, as Sen.
