Justice Network Honors National Police Week

"128 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty since 1878 just before Montana became a state", he said.

The week was established by Congress in 1962 and starts Monday with National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

This weekend there was a candlelight vigil on the National Mall in Washington to mark the 394 names added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The Annual Greensboro Police Memorial honored 22 law enforcement officers that were killed in the line of duty in Guilford County.

Shepard spoke about bills still being debated in the legislature that would benefit police officers, including one that would allow them to retire sooner.

The findings, released by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, showed 135 officers were killed in 2016, a 56 percent increase over 2015, marking the highest number of police fatalities since 2011. "We never know what the next shift is going to bring", Warner said.
