As chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, many people in the nation are looking to him for answers about how the investigation into Russia's involvement in USA elections will continue without former FBI Director James Comey.

It was during a one-on-one dinner between Trump and Comey that Trump says he asked Comey if he could confirm he wasn't under investigation, which Comey did.

"James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!" the president tweeted.

President Trump tweeted a veiled threat Friday toward former FBI Director James B. Comey over possible tapes of their conversations.

"We can make a fast decision", Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One before flying to southern Virginia, where he delivered his first commencement address as president at Liberty University, an evangelical Christian school. Since then, however, Comey's associates have been quoted as saying that no such guidance was ever given.

When pressed about whether Spicer would be keeping his job as White House Press Secretary, Trump insisted he had been "doing a good job" despite getting "beat up" by the media. "I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors".

"I'm not aware of that being a standard practice", McCabe said of an FBI director hypothetically telling the president or anyone else if they're the target of an investigation.

President Donald Trump said Saturday that "we can make a fast decision" on a new Federal Bureau of Investigation director, possibly by late next week, before he leaves on his first foreign trip since taking office.

He had argued that his surrogates can not be expected to "stand at podium with flawless accuracy". And Trump, in an interview Thursday with NBC, described a far different dinner conversation with Comey in which the director asked to have the meeting and the question of loyalty never came up.

"We've made greater progress to date than I had envisioned when I mapped out what I thought we needed to do", Burr said about the investigation.

The White House disputed that account.

Mr Spicer later said that the president had not asked for a pledge of loyalty.

Did Trump break the law by firing Comey?... Later, Sanders said, "We want this to come to its conclusion, we want it to come to its conclusion with integrity". In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, testifying in place of Comey, promised to tell the panel of any White House meddling into the agency's probe.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Tuesday that Rosenstein drafted the memo raising concerns about Comey on his own accord.

The person he selects will ultimately be responsible for the FBI's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation.
