The Tampa Bay Rays need consistency at the plate to give their pitching a helping hand for the best chance of success.

The Rays, who hadn't scored in 17 straight innings against the Angels entering the game, bounced back.

Erasmo Ramirez (3-0, 3.00 ERA) allowed a pair of runs in the first on an Albert Pujols homer in six innings of work.

He surrendered seven hits and three left the yard.

Just as Rays starter Alex Cobb did Tuesday, Ramirez settled down after the early lapse, shutting out the Angels for the next four innings and holding them to two more hits along the way. Catching for the Rays is Derek Norris.

"In a tight ballgame, walks can define some things and it did tonight", said Rays manager Kevin Cash. Back-to-back doubles by Corey Dickerson and Kevin Kiermaier put the Rays up 3-2 in the third. First pitch is set for 1:10 PM ET. Moreno was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in five appearances. Angels' Mike Trout also scored on the home run. Looking on is Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Daniel Robertson. The homer ended a 18-inning scoreless streak for the Rays' offense. Rasmus led off the seventh with another home run and Souza, who came into the game in an 8-for-67 slump, followed with his second of the game and seventh of the season.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - More than a quarter of the way into the season, Ricky Nolasco has no answers for the nagging issue that has plagued him so consistently. Matt Andriese (4-1, 3.75 ERA) will take the mound for the Rays.

This is Garton's second stint with the club this season. He has given up nine homers in nine starts. After beginning the season 1-for-6, Dickerson's average has stayed at or above.300 ever since. "After (starter Jake Odorizzi), we had three pitchers that I would guess probably threw more balls than strikes. I think I erred, '" crew chief Joe West told a pool reporter. Most of the time you're going to get them, most of the time, right. "This is the big leagues".

Nolasco couldn't help himself with the homers.always with the homers, this guy. The bases have been empty for 11 of the homers. "One of the more frustrating games". He's allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his 10 starts. "Obviously Ramirez made some pitches and got out of some innings", Pujols said.

"Shoe was throwing the ball as well as he did at any time during that stretch previous year, and that was encouraging", Scioscia said. He can get hot any time. He would get tagged for three dingers total, finishing his night with a serviceable 6.0 IP and seven hits, but if three of those hits are HRs, then that whole "serviceable" qualifier is thrown out the window.

To Scioscia, though, it wasn't for lack of good swings. "It was good. Like I said, the last couple of weeks have been a little rough", Souza said. "Sometimes, that's the way it goes".
