President Donald Trump is poised withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement on climate change, according to multiple reports. Jim Inhofe, chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said his office is withholding a statement until the President issues an official decision.

The decision, which will be announced this week, would put the USA at odds with almost every other nation on earth and will be a major break from worldwide partners that would isolate the United States in global efforts to curb global warming.

Mr Musk, who has been in Sydney this week with his family, said on Twitter he had done all he could to advise Mr Trump to keep the USA in the deal.

During his campaign, the President vowed to withdraw from the agreement, but it's not yet a done deal. Former Secretary of State John Kerry, who helped negotiate the agreement, responded to a Twitter user who shared a photo of Kerry signing the agreement at the United Nations with his granddaughter on his lap.

The Trump administration may or may not signal the mode of withdrawal if it does, in fact, announce that it will pull out of the agreement this week.

Trump said he would make the announcement at 12.30 am (3 pm local time) at the White House.
