Along the funeral route, many shared memories of concerts, and some blared the band's songs from their cars and trucks. One woman carried a sign saying "You made our soul shine". We have Jason Aldean, but it's not the same as Gregg.

Some slipped into the chapel through a back entrance.

In a statement Friday, the 92-year-old Carter said he would attend Allman's funeral to "pay his respects" to the singer.

Ahead of Gregg Allman's funeral, Cher revealed that she had to get it together before the memorial service in Macon, Georgia.

Allman died on May 27 at age 69 at his home in Savannah, Georgia, after battling liver cancer. Their band, The Allman Brothers Band, began its rise to fame in the central Georgia city 90 miles south of Atlanta about five decades ago and sometimes performed for large crowds in Atlanta's Piedmont Park. They used to write songs while hanging out in the cemetery, Alan Paul wrote in "One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band".

Furthermore, the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is hosting a street party on Vineville Avenue between Corbin and Rogers streets in Macon, Georgia.

Legendary Allman Brothers Band vocalist Gregg Allman will be laid to rest this afternoon at a ceremony in his hometown of Macon, GA, and among the notable attendees will be Allman's former bandmate and founding ABB guitarist Dickey Betts and former president Jimmy Carter.

"The Allman Brothers Band gave me something to aim for when I had nothing", said musician Michael Francis McCarthy, 32, who drove from Jacksonville, Florida, to attend the funeral procession.

The photos of Cher attending the service are just heartbreaking to look at, as you know she is struggling to come to terms with the death of her ex-hubby. Like I said, we had Little Richard, Otis Redding, Allman Brothers, and with him being gone, he was the voice!

Allman had been working on a yet-to-be-released solo album entitled Southern Blood. He was looking forward to sharing it with the world and that dream is going to be realized. But hepatitis C ruined his liver, and after getting a transplant, it was music that helped him recover.
