Sabzar's killing: Tense situation prevails in Kashmir

Authorities imposed strict curfew and restrictions on Sunday and extended it until Tuesday, besides ordering closure of educational institutions on Monday and Tuesday to prevent protests from spreading.

People in hundreds had arrived on Saturday from different places of south Kashmir to attend the burial of Sabzar and Faizan who were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Saimoh village.

The separatist trio - chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and JKLF chief Yasin Malik - also called for a march to Tral on Tuesday in protest against the killing.

Schools and colleges have also been closed for Monday in Srinagar and for two days in Pulwama.

"Barring two minor stone pelting incidents in Tahab (Pulwama) and 90 Feet Raod (Srinagar), the situation remained under control", he said, adding that no injury was reported during these incidents.

Police and security forces said they used "maximum restraint" before chasing them away.

High tension and uneasy calm has started affecting the tourist inflow into the Kashmir Valley. For a state administration apprehensive of a repeat of the violent protests that followed the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani in July, things have mostly been under control.

The unrest that followed Wani's killing lasted almost six months during which 94 civilians were killed and hundreds other injured.
