Putin: Election hackers could have been from anywhere

MSNBC, Today and NBC Nightly News all broadcast previews of Sunday Night's big get, Kelly's sit-down last week with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Comey associates have alleged that Trump asked the FBI director if he could drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn and his Russian contacts.

Mr Putin scoffed at the USA focus on the Russian ambassador's contacts with members of Mr Trump's team, saying the envoy was just doing his job. "We did not have any relationship at all. It's time to stop that useless and harmful chatter". And then afterwards I was told you know, that was an American gentleman. Do you think, an ambassador from any place in the world or from the U.S. reports to me daily as to whom he meets with and what they discuss?

"If this theory is correct and that can't be ruled out", Putin told Kelly, "then what could be easier, in this day and age, than using all the technical means at the disposal of the intelligence services and using those means to organize some attacks and then pointing the finger at Russian Federation?"

Putin denied knowing Michael Flynn, Trump's disgraced former national security adviser who resigned after being caught in a secretive phone call with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

"That's it. I didn't even really talk to him. That's the extent of my acquaintance with Mr. Flynn", he said. A photo of Putin and Flynn seated at the same table at an event had fuelled speculation over an association between the two.

He then went on to suggest that perhaps the American intelligence services were behind the hacking and were blaming Russian Federation for an unspecified reason.

"I was one of the guests there", he said.

L-R: Megyn Kelly wears silver sandals during interview with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, center, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

When Kelly asked about Russian interference in the election during the panel, Putin likened the accusations to prejudice.

The Trump Free Speech Rally ended with 14 arrests on disorderly conduct, concealed weapon and harassment charges and almost 100 more protesters were rounded up. "You and I met yesterday evening".

"They might have read a certain article and if they are in the patriotic mood, then they start making their contributions the way they see it positive towards the Russian image", Putin said, according to an Associated Press translation.

In a sign of exasperation, Putin compared what he described as the obsessive USA focus on alleged Russian interference with the vote to anti-Semitism.

"IP addresses can be invented - a child can do that!" he also said, per NBC News. "So if this theory is correct, and that can't be ruled out, then what could be easier in this day and age than using all the technical means at the disposal of the intelligence services and using those means to organize some attacks, and then pointing the finger at Russian Federation".
