Arsenal have made their first signing of the summer with the capture of Bosnian global defender Sead Kolasinac from Schalke.

He had also been linked with a transfer to Chelsea, but the promise of first-team football has lured the 23-year-old to North London.

This season, the left-sided defender made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions for Schalke, contributing three goals and seven assists. Kolasinac, who can operate as a left back and a left wing-back, is a front-foot defender, as are most of Arsenal's defensive players. Wenger, as well as chief executive Ivan Gazidis and majority shareholder Stan Kroenke, has targeted a run at the Premier League crown next season.

"Sead Kolasinac will complete a move to Arsenal FC upon the expiry of his contract with Schalke 04 on 30th June 2017", it read.

The 24-year-old undrafted rookie, who didn't score in nine games during the regular season, has three goals in six playoff games. Coach Peter Laviolette benched him in the third period of Game 2 when Rinne gave up three goals in the first 3:28 of a 4-1 loss.

In typical left-stream fashion, Kalaf ganged up on the one conservative in the debate. He's a stereotype-defying Black conservative who tells it like it is.

He becomes the first player to sign for the club since Arsene Wenger agreed a new two-year deal at the Emirates.

The Gunners missed out on a spot in the Champions League after they finished fifth and a point behind Liverpool.

Kolasinac is expected to battle with Nacho Monreal for a regular starting role though the former's arrival could signal a commitment to continue with the 3-4-2-1 that brought Arsenal nine wins in their final 10 games of the season.
