Apple is using artificial intelligence to carve out new features

San Francisco: Apple on Monday introduced a music speaker, its first hardware since Apple Watch was rolled out two years ago, at this year's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

On a monthly basis, that means about 35.6 million consumers are chatting with Google Home, Amazon Echo, or a similar device. Directly compatible with Apple Music and Siri voice assistant, Apple is relying on its superior acoustics and ease of use to woo customers away from competitors.

"Apple being very clever by launching its Siri speaker as a music speaker that's smart, because Siri isn't great", said Tom Warren from the technology news site The Verge. A searchable handwriting feature makes it easy to search for handwritten text or characters using machine learning.

While there were tons of announcements made at the conference, we narrowed it down to the most important, starting with Siri, the company's smart virtual assistant.

The speaker will sell for about $350 in December in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia.

The Echo, released in 2015, and Google Home, released a year ago, were the first entrants in a promising market.

"Now the iPad is much more functional for a professional who's used to using a file manager in their work", Krewell added. It can in other words switch between refresh rates such as 24Hz, 48Hz, 60Hz, and 120Hz, depending on the content.

"The price tag is notably higher than both Amazon and Google's smart home offerings", he pointed out, "and while it will no doubt appeal to Apple fans, there is little to suggest - at least from the initial details - that this will directly compete against those Echo and Home devices".

It will allow users to automatically block auto-play videos by detecting videos that shouldn't be playing when you open a webpage to read an article, for example.

Apple iOS 11 puts a bigger focus on apps and stickers, featuring a redesigned app picker, but the coolest update is iCloud syncing.

The App Store is being completely redesigned, with a new tab called Today to help people discover new apps that are appearing.

Apple is also conveying the capacity to pay back a companion or other individual through its payment service, Apple Pay.
