Apple Just Made the iMac the Best Mac

On the developer front, Apple also unveiled a new Developer Kit that's a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure with an AMD Radeon RX 580 and a USB-Hub, designed for use with the company's MacBook Pros.

The devices will also have what Apple is calling the "most advanced displays on the planet" that are "smoother, crisper and more responsive". It'll be the first iMac to feature an Intel Xeon processor - now only found in the ageing Mac Pro (and PC workstations such as Dell's Precision, HP's Z-Series and Lenovo's ThinkStation ranges).

Radeon Pro 500 cards are available in the updated Apple iMac devices and feature support for 4K and 5K displays.

The displays that sit front and center on the iMac are also being improved, with brighter 500 nit displays and 10-bit dithering, which supports up to a billion colors.

In introducing the iMac Pro and with a straight face, Apple said the 27-inch iMac is now its most popular desktop for its pro customers. Though many rumors ahead of this event told us to expect new iPads and MacBooks, the first refresh Apple announced today is coming to its 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs.

The newest member of the iMac family is a serious powerhouse. Even more, the iMac Pro will also feature up to 16GB of on-package high-bandwidth memory (HBM2).

The new iPad Pros are available from online stores and authorized resellers of Apple in the USA and other countries like Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

But all the other new iOS 11 features will make it in as well, including the new, ARKit-enabled augmented reality experiences, more Siri functionality, machine learning-powered personalization, as well as the upgrades to the App Store, Apple Pay, Camera, and other apps. The MacBook Pro 13 can now hit 3.5GHz with the top-end Intel Core i7, while the MacBook Pro 15 will hit 3.1GHz with its own seventh-generation Intel Core i7 chip. This includes native HEVC video decoding and Metal 2 - a new version of its graphics API that it says outperforms OpenGL massively and can work with external graphics accelerators. All of those upgrades are also included in the new versions of the iPad Pro 12.9in model.
