However, many believe the onset of the monsoon in the state has been delayed by a few days. Last year, it had arrived 13 days late.

Some parts of Marathwada region witnessed heavy showers. Pernem recorded 116.4mm and Panaji 89.1mm. Winds will be southwesterly at a speed of 45 to 50km per hour and are likely reach 60km per hour in a gust or squall, said the met department. Other parts of the state received chief amounts of rainfall including Mormugao 5 cm, Ponda and Ela (Old Goa) 4 cm each, Mapusa, Canacona and Dabolim 3 cm each, Sankhali and Valpoi 2 cm each, Sanguem, Margao and Quepem 1 cm each.

The southwest monsoon hit Goa on Friday, which has been experiencing pre-monsoon showers all week. However, it was delayed because of low pressure off the Arabian Sea. While coastal Maharashtra has seen some good rains, Monsoon is yet to make an onset over the state capital Mumbai.

Mumbai: The Indian Meteorological Department on Thursday said that the south-west monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai by this weekend.

However, conditions do look favourable for the further advancement of Southwest Monsoon over Mumbai and adjoining areas of Maharashtra. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast at isolated places on June 9.
