How MS Dhoni's presence is benefiting Virat Kohli at ICC Champions Trophy

Pakistan and Sri Lanka meet today in Cardiff to decide who plays England in the same city on Wednesday. The left-handed opener, who had been in tremendous form in the Champions Trophy, was once again at his menacing best as he thrashed the South Africa bowlers to all the parts of the ground. They seem to know thing or two about the Delhi cricketer's ability to raise his game in multi-team ODI events.

Babar Azam (31 not out) and Shoaib Malik (16 not out) got Pakistan ahead of their required run-rate to secure a 19-run win under the Duckworth-Lewis method when rain stopped play with their side 119/3 off 27 overs. While Du Plessis just like De Villiers had no answer why they choke during big matches, he did have strong observations about the quality of cricket that they had been playing of late.

AB DE Villiers says he is the man to lead South Africa to a World Cup win despite another humiliating exit from a global one-day tournament.

De Villiers was run out when he ran for a single for du Plessis but a throw from Hardik Pandya at the wicket-keeper caught him short of the crease. However, after this beleaguered campaign, the future of AB as a player and as a captain is not entirely cozy at the moment. We only wanted to go for wickets because we understood now they are probably hesitating in going for their shots. "We can feel that confidence and energy in the change room because of a bowling performance like this, and we surely would like to take that forward into the semis", he said.

"It's just personal performances".

Of the T20 squad, Morkel, Morris and Parnell are the only ones likely to be part of the Test squad as well, which illustrates that South Africa are focused on rotating players as much as possible on a three-month tour.

"In this whole tournament‚ we haven't played the cricket that we've played the whole year and the reason for that is unknown‚" he said.

Kohli too has been seen discussing tactics with Dhoni on the field.

There were opportunities for us in the game, myself and Quinton (de Kock) started getting a nice partnership together after 10 overs, where India bowled really well. We came here to win the game of cricket. "I think those two run outs were the turning point today".

South Africa have been to 20 major tournaments since readmission in 1991‚ and won only one. You have to lay it out in front of them that this is what we did wrong, including me, and we need to take it on the chin and accept it and prove it. Dinesh Chandimal then played the innings of his life, coming out all cylinders blazing to take Sri Lanka out of a corner and Rangana Herath finished India off on a turning fourth innings pitch to leave Kohli seething. That sort of mindset is really helping all of us to come together as a unit and make things happen.
