Faf du Plessis Takes Responsibility of South Africa Loss

AB de Villiers, on 16, perished trying to pinch a quick single and David Miller (one) was dismissed in farcical circumstances with both batsmen stranded at the same end to leave South Africa struggling at 142 for four.

The India-South Africa encounter was each of the team's last game in Group B and the points table was poised in such an intense situation that the victor made it to the semis and the loser to the airport tarmac.

"It is very hard to sell it on this kind of performance but that is what I believe in".

His captaincy of South Africa's Test and one-day team, which he cherished when they were first bestowed, has been under scrutiny for a while, something not helped by Faf du Plessis' growing reputation as an astute tactician and man-manager. Our approach was far more conservative, and if you're going to play that way, you can't afford the calamities that unfolded in terms of the two mid-innings run outs.

However, skipper Virat Kohli (76*), who came in next to bat, shared a 128-run partnership with opener Shikhar Dhawan (78). Until you have a team effort you can't win games, especially in conditions you are unfamiliar with.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl against Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy at Sophia Gardens on Monday.

The positivity to our play and the energy that we've come to expect from this group of players just hasn't been there.

South Africa captain AB De Villiers was one of three players run out as his side collapsed to 191 all out.

De Villiers, South Africa's one-day worldwide captain, will skipper the Proteas in three T20s against England in Southampton, Taunton and Cardiff starting on July 21. "The crowd was supporting us and that's why the players were boosted", captain Sarfraz Khan had said after the win against the Proteas.

"The pressure was built by the bowlers and that I think resulted in those breakthroughs we got in the field", Kohli said.

"Through soft dismissals we lost our way and that was the part that hurt the most".
