Freshman football player dies after morning workout

Heintz is the second KSU football player in recent years to die after a workout. A cause of death has yet to be determined.

Heintz, a 2017 graduate of Kenton High School, was an offensive tackle for the Golden Flashes.

Heintz was a 2-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com, and he signed with Kent State on February 1.

He arrived on campus for the first time this week, where and the other freshman were said to be taking summer classes and getting an early start on practices.

Tragedy struck college football Tuesday. He was from Kenton, Ohio, about two and a half hours away from the university. Heintz was pronounced dead at 11:34 a.m.

He planned on studying marketing and entrepreneurship in Kent State's college of business administration, the release said.

The cause of Heintz's death is now unknown.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct a postmortum on Wednesday morning.

"The post-mortem is just one piece of the puzzle", he explained, "That takes time".

Heintz's passing was also reported by WKTN Radio in Kenton. However, he cautioned that the conclusion of the autopsy could take several weeks.

In addition to the statement released from Kent State, his high school alma mater released their thoughts and prayers on Twitter following the tragic incident.
