Scott Harvey and Steve Stricker walk down the fairway during a practice round ahead of the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills. It couldn't be, not the way he almost jumped out of the chair. The last US Open victor to finish with a double-digit number under par was Rory McIlroy, who dominated at Congressional back in 2011. We have 60 yards from left line to right line.

"If we can't hit it in that avenue, we might as well pack our bags and go home".

Maybe. But did you know that the last eight majors have produced eight different winners, dating to when Spieth won the 2015 Masters and U.S. Open? It's a US Open. It's supposed to be tough.

"If you've 50 to 60 yards to hit into and you're complaining about the fescue that's wider than that".

Considering that the school has already released a statement saying that it will not reschedule their graduation ceremony in California for the U.S. Open in Wisconsin, the only form those unforeseen circumstances could take would seem to be bad weather at Erin Hills.

"Just a mental test, just dealing with the mental side of the game more than any other tournament", said American Jordan Spieth, victor of the 2015 U.S. Open on a similar links style course at Chambers Bay. I wasn't crying when I saw that rain, it's a long golf course and it's only going to play longer. You figure stuff out on the golf course more than on the range sometimes anyway, and it's let me concentrate a bit more on my short game. I'm not saying luck as in they're lucky people.

"It was a little cooler than it has been the last couple of days, so I really enjoyed my time out on the golf course".

Because of a change in USGA policy, Diaz is allowed to play practice rounds on the course this year; in the past, alternates were relegated to the practice facilities.

Day has put a two-iron into his bag this week, shaped to mimic a one-iron, for safer tee shots. Another six were dropped from his schedule - the Abu Dhabi, Dubai Desert Classic and BMW PGA on the European Tour, as well as the Genesis Open, Honda Classic and The Memorial on the PGA Tour - which has led him to add the Scottish Open onto his schedule, sandwiched between the DDF Irish Open and the British Open. "It's about managing my practice schedule, not over-doing it and making sure that I have plenty of energy to come out on the course and just play". "I have to have my mindset as if he's playing". I've had a lot of time to think over the last few weeks and sort of figure out what I need to do to get back to winning majors and being in contention. "Once you've played it, you should know where to go", he said. As a player, you can put too much emotion into shots and not just play the numbers in front of you.

Rory McIlroy addresses the media during a press conference for the U.S. Open golf tournament at Erin Hills.

What that means is hitting two bags of balls a day as opposed to five. Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Jordan Spieth are all listed among the favorites as well ranging from +1200 odds to +1400 odds to win outright depending on the sportsbook. "No one gave me a spot, where if somebody would have given me a sponsor spot, I would have felt like I owed somebody something". If I drive it good, I'll be good.
