North Korea 'most urgent' threat to security: Mattis

North Korea claimed it has moved closer to test-firing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the potential of hitting the United States mainland.

According to Moon's office, the South Korean president told Infantino: 'If neighboring Northeast Asian countries, including South and North Korea, can host the World Cup, I think that would contribute to peace between South and North Korea and in the Northeast Asian region.

The US in May successfully tested a ballistic-missile defense system meant to intercept a nuclear attack from North Korea, but it did so in conditions short of an actual combat situation. In 2014, several suspected North Korean drones were found south of the border.

The THAAD or Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system, is a sophisticated missile defense system that uses kinetic energy to destroy warheads in flight.

Separately, US think-tank says North Korea sanctions-skirting network could be defeated by targeting China firms.

Nominee Song Young-moo is well-suited to deal with North Korea's nuclear and missile threat, the presidential Blue House office said.
