North Korea has been accused of spying on South Korea after a suspected Pyongyang drone was spotted on the site of a USA missile interceptor system, Seoul's military officials said Tuesday.

South Korean investigators have since discovered hundreds of photos from its Sony-made in-built camera, a Defense Ministry official said, requesting anonymity because of department rules. North Korea is believed to have 300 drones in its arsenal, according to the AP report.

North Korea has launched missiles on five different occasions since the new South Korean leader came into office on May 10, prompting fresh condemnations from both Seoul and Washington. Two anti-missile installments have already been installed, put in place in the middle of the night on a golf course 135 miles from Seoul despite protests by thousands of South Koreans over THAAD itself and United States militarism on the Korean Peninsula. It was similar in size and shape to a North Korean drone found in 2014 on an island near the border.

The warning followed reported comments by Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, during a visit to Seoul to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in and lawmakers.

South Korea is hoping to ease regional tensions with a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup with North Korea, China and Japan.

THAAD, an anti-missile defense system aimed at defending against North Korean missiles, has been a contentious deployment in South Korea, as well as the region.

There is an internet urban legend that North Korea is a pothead paradise and maybe even the next Amsterdam of pot tourism. The North Koreans "were informed that the airplane would land, American and medical officials would get out".

The soldier, who has not been publicly identified, approached a South Korean border guard post and expressed a wish to defect, the ministry said in a statement. That bilateral strategic group was established a year ago to enhance deterrence against North Korea's threats.

Staying true to his reputation as a man of the people, the president waved to onlookers and chatted with South Korean and USA soldiers before going into the White House, as the USFK headquarters is known.

Japan has sounded out China and South Korea about holding a trilateral summit in late July in Tokyo, diplomatic sources said Tuesday.
